‘A Promise of Fire’ Goodreads synopsis –
Catalia "Cat" Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice… Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he's ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.

My ‘A Promise of Fire’ Review –
(This is a NON-SPOILER review)
First off, Greek mythology. Magic. Politics. Steaming romance. Gods. Dragons! Tell me what else you would want in a YA Fantasy Romance novel!
I gave ‘APOF’ a rating of 5/5 stars on Goodreads, Amanda Bouchet’s writing was fantastic and engaged me all throughout my read. Since the writing was so creative, the imagery in this novel I found was so unique and picturesque.
The lead character, Cat, CAN I BE HER!? I loved how in every situation she was able to escape threats without even a scratch (thanks to her powers). I enjoyed how in the beginning of the novel she was a selfless person, and by the end of ‘APOF’ she was able to realise that there were people that cared about her.
Lastly who could forget about Griffin, his mates, and his damn magic rope. They were all so caring and all so very attractive. Griffin’s character matched so well with Cat’s. Throughout the novel, their quarrels had me in stitches because of how aggravated Griffin would make Cat.
So, in saying this, ‘A Promise of Fire’ has been one of my most favourite reads this year. Hands down Cat is one of the best female characters with a strong and independent personality that knows what’s best for her.
I couldn’t find any negatives to this story and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. For any readers interested in ‘A Promise of Fire’ I definitely recommend giving it a read, especially if your big fans of ‘Percy Jackson’, ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘How to Train Your Dragon’!
